Emotional and Stress Eating Support for Women

Supporting Women with Emotional Eating and Stress Eating

In being both a counsellor and a nurse, I have a unique expertise in health and wellness. I understand how unhealthy habits are formed, how they get “programmed” into our nervous system, and how we can change them. It takes more than just a plan, motivation, and willpower to change lifestyle habits.

I offer a compassionate and integrative approach to exploring the complex factors that contribute to unhealthy eating patterns. I believe that every woman’s journey is unique, and I’m here to support you in a safe and non-judgmental space.

“I Know What I Should Be Doing, I’m Just Not Doing It”

Many women feel like they know what a healthy diet looks like, but struggle to make it a reality. It’s not just about having the right information or enough motivation or willpower. Our eating habits are influenced by a complex mix of factors, including emotional, mental, and physical aspects.

My Approach

In our work together, we’ll explore the emotional, mental, and physical aspects of your relationship with food. I’ll draw on my nursing expertise and counselling skills to help you better understand your experiences and develop coping strategies that work for you. We’ll focus on building self-awareness, self-care, and self-compassion, and I’ll support you in discovering what nourishes your body and soul.

What to Expect

In our sessions, we can discuss topics such as stress, anxiety, and emotional regulation, as well as explore ways to cultivate a more positive and compassionate relationship with food and your body. I’ll provide a supportive and empathetic space for you to share your thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

A Holistic Approach to Emotional and Stress Eating

Nourishing Body and Mind: Therapies for Emotional Eating

In our work together, we’ll explore the emotional, mental, and physical aspects of your relationship with food. I’ll draw on my nursing expertise and counselling skills to help you better understand your experiences and develop coping strategies that work for you. We’ll focus on building self-awareness, self-compassion, and emotional balance. Through these practices, we can begin to create new habits and better ways of dealing with difficult emotions.

I support women in addressing their relationship with food and their habits through a combination of Emotionally Focused Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, Expressive Arts Therapy, and Mindfulness. These modalities help us explore the emotional, physical, and reactive aspects of eating.

Emotionally Focused Therapy for Emotional Eating

EFT can help you:

  • Understand the emotional triggers behind your eating habits
  • Develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself and your body
  • Cultivate emotional balance and resilience in the face of stress and triggers
  • Nurture a more positive body image and self-care practices

Polyvagal Theory: Understanding Your Nervous System’s Role in Eating

By applying Polyvagal Theory, we can:

  • Gain insight into how your nervous system responds to stress and trauma, and how this impacts your eating habits
  • Develop effective tools for regulating difficult emotions and creating new patterns of calm and self-care
  • Build resilience and enhance overall well-being, including a more positive relationship with food and your body

Mindfulness for Emotional Eating

Mindfulness practices can help you:

  • Develop greater awareness of your thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations around food and eating
  • Cultivate a non-judgmental and compassionate relationship with yourself and your body
  • Recognize and respond to your physical hunger and fullness cues
  • Reduce stress and anxiety around food and eating

Expressive Arts & Journal Therapy for Emotional Expression

This creative approach can help you:

  • Gain clarity and insight into your emotions and eating habits
  • Tap into your inner wisdom and connect with your most compassionate and nurturing self
  • Explore and express your vision for a more positive and nourishing relationship with food and your body
